AFPSLAI was founded in 1972 to address the financing needs of the uniformed men and women in the AFP. With only a seed capital of P950 thousand and a manpower of eleven (11), it started its operation in a small office space at the ground floor of the old MBAI Building. Within a short span of three years, AFPSLAI registered an unprecedented growth and thereafter declared its first ever dividend at 18 percent.

Towards the end of the 70s, it decided to open its doors to the policemen, thus, it became the Armed Forces and Police Savings and Loan Association, Inc With the widening of its membership base, AFPSLAI likewise embarked into expanding its operational jurisdiction. Hence, various service centers were established during the mid-80s to reach out to its members especially those in the field.
The beginning of the 90s, however, proved to be a critical period for the Association. The operational expansion it ventured into took its toll on its frail organizational structure and leadership. Certain flaws in its systems were uncovered that necessitated a major revamp. To offset the impending setback/collapse, a new management team was installed in 1992. True enough, AFPSLAI was able to survive the shumbles through sheer determination and hardwork to be of better service to the members.
